Hidden Magic: Inner Archetypes and Zines

Witch Crafts and Tarot for February 2025

Hello from frozen Minnesota! This is the first Hidden Magic newsletter and I’m so excited to share it with you.

I had long thought I’d like to do a newsletter to share creativity, witchy stuff, and tarot with like-minded people. If it weren’t for the TikTok ban, I think I would have continued putting it off. So, thanks, I guess? 😆

This newsletter contains:

Inner Artist Reading

Do you have to be an artist to use this reading? Nope! Every single one of us has an Inner Artist. Simply put, it’s the creative part inside of us.

This reading is about all the ways you’re a creative person. (And don’t you dare say you’re not creative! I won’t have it!) Creativity shows up in our lives outside of making arts & crafts. You might be creative in the way you teach, creative in the way you lead, creative in the way you decorate your home.

I do a weekly Inner Artist reading for myself. I share that reading on TikTok and Bluesky. But, I thought I’d try something special for the newsletter subscribers! This is a more detailed, monthly reading to help your Inner Artist stay creative this month.

The Magician and The Knight of Cups from the Rainbow Tarot

The Rainbow Tarot by So Lazo

How can your Inner Artist be creative in February 2025? The Magician

This month, your Inner Artist can embody the energy of The Magician. This is a supremely creative card! The Magician has all the tools at their fingertips, they only need to use them. They are confident, focused, and can make anything happen.

An Inner Artist who embodies The Magician knows they can make anything they want. They take the time to build their skills, collect their tools, and practice. They move forward without second-guessing themselves.

About those tools - it’s not just having the right physical items to get started. It’s also about having a creative mindset, an awareness of your own passions and talents, and having the support to create.

I asked an additional question based on The Magician. What tool(s) can the Magician employ? Knight of Cups

The Knight of Cups is pure heart. For your Magical Inner Artist, the tool to employ is your own heart-centered seeking. What is the truest expression of your creativity? That is where you’ll find your most powerful creative tool.

Journal Prompts:

Use these journal prompts to dive deep into this reading. If you read tarot, you can also ask your cards these questions!

  • What tools does my Inner Artist already have at the ready?

  • What tools do I need to cultivate in order to be my most creative self?

  • If I released the pressures and expectations I put on myself, what would I create?

  • How can I reassure my Inner Artist that they are powerful? That they have all the tools they need? That they are loved?

Words of Power:

  • I create magic.

  • I can try again.

  • I create from the heart.

Witchy Rituals:

  • Visualize your creative tools as magical items for your Inner Artist to wield in their creative spell work. (Paint brushes as wands, yarn as a cauldron, a journal as a grimoire)

  • Before you create something, ground yourself. Draw energy from the earth. Ask the energy to allow your Inner Artist to create purely from their heart. (The energy of the earth doesn’t judge. It doesn’t have expectations. It doesn’t have goals. It just is.)

  • Write a letter to your Inner Artist. Tell them all the things you’re ready to create. Tell them all the tools you have at your disposal that make creation possible.

  • Create (or visualize) your Inner Critic. Tell them they are not allowed in your creative space. Banish them from your creative realm by taking them to another room, putting them in a box, or setting them outside your creative walls.

Tarot Thoughts and Spreads

You may have seen therapists in the tarot space talking about “parts work” (Internal Family Systems). I was first introduced to this idea in my own therapy sessions and it knocked my socks off! This concept really resonates with me and I’ve brought it to my tarot practice.

The IFS Institute says that Internal Family Systems “conceives of every human being as a system of protective and wounded inner parts led by a core Self”. If you want to look more into this system, I recommend seeking resources developed by licensed mental health professionals. This Jungian Life and The Tarot Diagnosis are two trusted resources. I am not a mental health professional. I’ve just taken this idea and created a tarot and witchy practice based on it.

In my practice, I use the concept of “parts work” but expand it into archetypes. Jung conceived of archetypes such as the Magician, Sage, Ruler, Child, Explorer, and Caregiver. Along with the IFS parts such as the Firefighter, Manager, and Exile, I expand these ideas into fictional characters, celebrities, and honestly anything that helps me. My Inner Artist reading came about because of this!

You might think of your “Inner Anne Shirley,” your “Inner Queen of Wands,” or your “Inner Freddie Mercury”. These are all aspects we carry inside us. For some, that aspect might be on the surface. For others, the aspect might be hidden.

I use tarot in this way to calm myself during times of stress and to help me make decisions. I use it to feel more courageous, creative, and more authentically me.

Here are some questions you can ask your cards about your Inner Parts:

  • What does my Inner _____ need today? (or this week, this month, etc.)

  • How can I bring out my Inner _____?

  • How can I quiet my Inner _____?

  • How can I support my Inner _____?

  • What is a message from my Inner _____?

  • What does my Inner _____ have to teach me?

  • What wisdom does my Inner _____ have to share with me?

For Scary Times:

  • Card 1: What does my Inner Rebel need?

  • Card 2: How can I calm my Inner Escapist?

  • Card 3: How can I release my Inner Angela Davis?

For Anxiety:

  • Card 1: What does my Inner Worrier want me to know?

  • Card 2: How can I reassure them that I (the Self) have everything covered?

For Leadership:

  • Card 1: What wisdom does my Inner CEO have to share?

  • Card 2: How can I quiet my Inner Imposter?

I’d love to know if you use tarot in this way! Do you have other questions you ask of your “parts”?

Witch Crafting

Mini zines can be used for a wide variety of witchy things, such as:

  • tarot questions and spreads

  • mini-grimoires (example: crystals for courage)

  • witchy study (example: moon phases)

  • prayer/spell books

  • altars

  • vision boards

They are easy and fun to make. All you need is a piece of paper, a scissors, and something to write with.

I make them by hand and digitally (using Canva). I’m sharing my Canva template as one of this month’s freebies.

My very first YouTube video shows example zines, provides ideas for making them by hand, and shows you how to fold them. (It’s about 10 minutes long.)

Monthly Freebie

Subscribers get access to monthly freebies and this month’s are all about zines!
